Staying active and keeping in shape is important for families and, as they say, everything in moderation.
But theres a new TLC documentary that has a lot of peopleupset because it features “bodybuilders” in the form of young kids that havent even hit puberty yet.
Baby Bodybuilders shows how parents encourage their pre-teen children to work out every day and lift weights to get biceps and six packs.
The show follows two families from Virginia, one which include brothers Bo and Cap Ice and another with siblings Ethan, 11, and Samali, 8.
The first episode followedthe Ice family from Virginia to Las Vegas where they competed for the Best Body in America in their age groups.
As you might imagine, a lot of adult bodybuilders dont agree with the premise of the show though, and others havecriticized the actions of the parents, citing the fact that suchheavy weight is being put on growing childrens joints, cartilage, tendons, etc.
Others have said that these competitions are simply disturbing.
Most of these parents were obviously pushing their kids to achieve something to compensate for their failures in life,” one critic said. “Shows like this and the ones about beauty pageants for little girls should be used as evidence in child abuse trials.”
Honestly, why do kids need to worry about the “perfect physique?”
They should be active to be healthy, and competitive sports are great, but they shouldn’t develop an obsession with their bodies at such a young age.
What do you think about this?
